Guzelyurt Project is at ‘’Gündem Kıbrıs’’
Özçınar: ‘’We want to be an exemplary city in recycling’’
EU-funded irrigation system In order to reuse the wastewater treated in Güzelyurt Wastewater Treatment Plant, initialisation activity have been made.
With 2 million 14 thousand euros project value, a water storage pool and irrigation distribution system will be built and a safe reuse of 500 million liters of high quality water will be provided in each year.
Alain Toaris, Head of the EU Program Support Office, who took the floor for speach at first, stated that, there is reduction of groundwater and salinity due to climate changes and Güzelyurt Municipality Waste Water Treatment Facility is an important project for an alternative to this situation.
Toaris, mentioned the importance of re-use of treated water reliably, this source of water will be useful in terms of producers in their agricultural activities.
Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar stated that the wastewater treatment project is a long-term process and that they are happy to come to this point and that the transfer of the treated water to the gardens is important for the region.
Özçınar stated that they give importance to recycling in order to protect even a drop of water, and that they are working on expansion of plant for increasing its capacity, trying to maintain it at good condition, and wanting to be an exemplary city in recycling.
After the speeches, technical information was given about the project and the project area was visited.
