The construction project which will be carried out by Güzelyurt Municipality, with the help of 100.000 tonnes of lagoon, 136 m³ treated water for agricultural purposes can be able to be used.
According to the statement made by Güzelyurt Municipality, An International Company Gökşin, that carries out the tender of the project which is financed by the European Union with worth 4 million Euros, will start construction in April,
Within the scope of the Irrigation System Project 3 km irrigation lines will be laid and by this mean 136 m³ of pressurized water can be used in agricultural area, aiming to reuse of wastewater treated in Güzelyurt Waste Water Treatment Plant,
The project also includes the construction of 100 thousand tonnes of lagoon. Thus, 500 million liters of high quality water will be safely reused every year to irrigate local crops. With the end of the lagoon construction and water retention, birdwatching points will be established in the region.
The project, which will give life to the citrus sector, will contribute to improve the product quality and to make the producers use the water cheaper.
Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar thanked the European Commission and European Union Support Office and pointed out that the project has been implemented after a long period of time.
By forming 100 thousand tons of lagoon, efficient 120-day irrigation work capacity will occur Özçınar said, within the scope of the project 3 km of pipe line will be laid for the water to be transferred to agricultural areas, he said.
Özçınar stated that they aim to become a model municipality in the field of recycling and they want to spread the idea of recycling in the society. He also stated that, although this year's rainfall is fruitful, it might not be possible every year, so required steps shall be accomplished to protect each drop.
