FOR AGRICULTURAL USAGE 500 TOUSAND TONS TREATED WATER WILL BE SUPPLIED IN A YEAR

By the help of additions at waste water plant, 500 thousand tons treated water for agricultural usage will be supplied. The project contract, which was financed by the European Union, was signed by Gökşin İnşaat in December 2018 with 2.64 millions budged. Project contains pond with 1 thousand m3 capacity and 2750 meters water pipeline with 11 exit points. The works plan to be completed within 17 months. Özçınar stated: ‘’We want to be example for works with zero waste point’’. From the speech of Mahmut Özçınar at the activity, he explained that the rainfall at the winter season was plenty but there might be rare rainfall years for these reasons reused of treated water has great importance. Özçınar stated that Güzelyurt waste water treatment plant has 1.200 ton treatment capacity per day but their aim is to improve the capacity at 2019. Özçınar stated: ''Recycling as a whole will be an example. Recycling of water is now a necessity.''

Mahmut Özçınar stated: ‘’Since Güzelyurt is on the water aquifer and this aquifer needed to be protected , for this purpose the sewage network has been installed and today Güzelyurt Waste Water Treatment Plant is working with full capacity, and protection of this plant has great importance.’’ He added: ‘’ As a municipality, the recycling of green wastes achieved, the reuse of debris continued, and to set up a separation plant for plastic and metal wastes is on among the targets.’’ He stated that they want to be set an example for zero waste.

JOARİS: “TREATED WATER PROVIDES PRODUCT SAFETY.’’ From the European Union Program Support Office Alain Joaris; state that salinization of groundwater resources is a reality in the region and this salinity affect agricultural production negatively. He said that the plant would be of great benefit to farmers because during irrigation periods, without depending on precipitation, farmers would have a source of water they could trust. Joaris stated that agricultural production is a very successful application with treated water. He stated that agricultural activities are carried out with purified water in the Murcia region of Spain, which is one of the most vegetable production regions of Europe and that purified water provides product safety today. He said that he was confident that farmers in the region would benefit from this project.  He said that, ‘’The European Commission continued its commitment to assist the economic development of Turkish Cypriots ‘’. The EU-financed Güzelyurt Waste Water Treatment Plant was completed in 2012
